Akin to Godwin's Law, Grandad's Law states that

The first person to mention “the children” in an attempt to sway public opinion has lost their case.[1]

This is applicable to such things as

  • proposed bans on smoking in cars "for the children,"
  • the numerous dictats on the content of food "for the children" or
  • banning the advertising of alcoholic drinks "for the children."
