Grandad's Law

Akin to Godwin's Law, Grandad's Law states that

The first person to mention “the children” in an attempt to sway public opinion has lost their case.

This is applicable to such things as

• proposed bans on smoking in cars "for the children,"
• the numerous dictats on the content of food "for the children" or
• banning the advertising of alcoholic drinks "for the children."
